Behind the Scenes
Our Children are our the greatest achievement and the source of our joy. We spend each day feeling deeply blessed, and we are endlessly grateful.
Our journey began in 2023 when, after years of hoping, we were blessed with the arrival of our beautiful baby boy, Luka. While we were overjoyed, our pregnancy and birth experience was far from typical. At just 20 weeks’ gestation, Luka was diagnosed with Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele.
At 24 weeks gestation, in an effort to improve his quality of life, we underwent in-utero surgery to repair the spinal defect. Despite being born prematurely at 34 weeks and facing multiple medical complications, Luka continues to show incredible strength and resilience. Despite experiencing weakness and reduced sensation in his left ankle and below his right knee, Luka is a happy, determined, smart toddler who continues to surprise us everyday.
Spina Bifida is a lifelong condition that requires ongoing support from a multidisciplinary team of medical and allied health professionals. Our focus is on managing symptoms, implementing appropriate supports and ensuring Luka has every opportunity to thrive and engage meaningfully with his peers. To support this, Luka has an NDIS plan and we work closely with a dedicated network of specialists and allied health providers.
Through our lived experience, we understand first hand how complex and overwhelming the NDIS and broader healthcare system can be - particularly for families living in regional and rural areas where access to services are limited.
Country Care Services was founded to bridge this gap. We are committed to helping participants make the most of their NDIS plans while empowering them to make informed choices, build independence and receive supports that are truly centred around their individual needs.
